The Higgs boson is named after Peter Higgs who theorized it in 1964. It is also known as God Particle since it is responsible for mass in all the Fundamental Particles. It is an Elementary particle.
Actually the Higgs particle is a boson with no spin, electric charge, or color charge. It is also very unstable, decaying into other particles almost immediately. It couples with the Fermions and give them mass.
It was first theorized by the duo of Bose and Einstein and obeys Bose-Einstein Statistics. According to this Higgs Bosons unlike Fermions can share the same quantum state. It quickly dissociates into W and Z Bosons leaving no fingerprints. It can only be detected by the presence of the Higgs Field and has been tentatively confirmed by the scientists of the CERN on 14 March 2013.
