Reference Frame or Frame of Reference is 3-Dimensional coordinate system which is used to describe the motion, position and orientation of the body at a given point of time.
Frame of Reference is of two types :
- Inertial Frame of Reference : Reference Frame which is non-accelerated or moving with uniform velocity.
- Non-Inertial Frame of Reference : It is an accelerated reference frame. A frame of reference whose velocity is changing over time.
Reference frame is used to specify the relationship between moving observer and the phenomena under observation in that frame.
In my opinion Reference Frame is just a perception and there is nothing like Inertial or Non-Inertial Frame of Reference. It is the hypothesis, that helps us to make other one.
Since in this Universe nothing is stationary whole universe is accelerating, thus the thing which remains is Relativity. This arises the concept of Observational Frame of Reference which can be Inertial or Non-Inertial relative to the Observer that whether the frame is accelerated or not.
Einsteinian Relativity is all about Reference Frames. So go through it for better knowledge of frames.
